titled 'ARMY BOOTS', public intervention with stenciled spray paint (lasted up to two weeks on the asphalt.
“Reclaiming Footpaths”
Date and location: Nov 5th – 12th, throughout the streets of Inner City Amman

Aiming to underscore Amman’s pedestrian spirit, this public art piece is spread on thirty four roads emanating from the central downtown valley. Steep and sharp, these roads are built over people’s tracks since time immemorial going down natural paths. An asphalt layer now claims over one fourth of the visual environment around these roads and is the clearest, most continuous, vertical element. As the conveyer of machine movement, this asphalt cover is the terrain of spontaneous conflict between inhabitants as pedestrians or drivers in the public forum of the streets. Unlike other terrains, these are areas where going down the hilly bends, a pedestrian feels most powerful against the lumbering traffic, and going up, a driver’s vision is set against the open black climb. Here I will jaywalk at leisure by night leaving behind on the asphalt spray paint prints of colorful, larger than life, florescent footsteps against the grain of the upward automotive track.
